How the Automation Planner works
The planner follows known production recipes and workstation requirements to build a production chain for the selected item. Each step is classified as automatable, manual, external, or unresolved from the available game data.
Technology and workstation requirements are separated from production inputs, so the thing that actually blocks a chain is not buried in a material list.
Automation coverage counts production steps only: the steps that produce something. Materials you gather, buy or fish are listed as inputs to supply, so an item you never intended to automate never lowers the ratio.
